Meet Our Patients - Brenda
My Road Back From the Big “C”
I am Brenda and I was born August 20, 1954, in a small town. I gave birth to two children that I breastfed. I have always tried to eat right and exercise, so when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was very, very surprised. There is no history of breast cancer in my family that I know about. The unthinkable happened to me. I discovered a lump in my breast after a shower. My husband, who is in the medical field, examined it and insisted that I go see my gynecologist. I got an appointment the very next day. I was sent for a mammogram and the radiologist told me what he saw. I was sent to a general surgeon who did a biopsy to confirm the cancer and discussed mastectomy. He gave me choices that led me to Dr. Snyder to discuss reconstruction. Dr. Snyder talked to me and gave me all my options. I decided to use my own tissue. My whole experience has been wonderful! Recovery from the reconstruction was very fast! Looking back on my road to recovery brings tears to my eyes when I see how I look and know that I am well again. I look good!!
